• Root Planing and Scaling

    • Your root surfaces may be hyper-sensitive as a result of root planing for a period of time. Use of a desensitizing toothpaste should help. You may also need to avoid cold food and drinks temporarily.

    • You may need some pain medication for discomfort after the initial anesthetic has worn off. We recommend Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve for dental discomfort.

    • To sooth and help heal your gum tissue, rinse the area frequently with warm salt water (1tsp salt mixed in 12 oz water). Keep the area as clean as possible using a soft toothbrush and the specific cleaning aids suggested for you. You can make a home-made cleansing paste by diluting hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of water, then adding baking soda unti you reach a paste-like consistency. You may want to pre-rinse with Chloroseptic sore throat spray before cleaning the treated area.

    • Resume regular cleaning methods as comfort and healing permit. Use sulcular brushing technique (45 degree angle). Use specific cleaning aids daily.
